PLASTIC POLLUTION IT’S DOWN TO US
Post by Askeko
Did you know that every plastic bag or container that you had in your hands it’s still somewhere?
I did find out that in 2015 approximately 6.3bn tonnes of plastic waste only 9% been recycled, 12% incinerated & shockingly 79% is left out there on our lands and oceans and worst of all if the current rate of plastic production and waste management trends continue the plastic pollution will rise 12bn tonnes. For me it’s alarming numbers.
What type of plastic products is produced mostly?
Around 480bn plastic bottles was sold Globally in 2016 (approximately 1 million bottles per minute), not event 50% was collected for recycling and only 7% recycled. Some countries, including UK is planing introduce to public incentives that would collect plastic bottles in exchange of money.
Why plastic is problematic?
Did you know that plastic existence started just around 60-70 years ago, but in that time you can find it in each aria of our lives like clothing, cooking and catering, to product design, engineering and retailing.
And nearly all the plastic ever created, as I mentioned earlier, still exists in some form today.
Whats is the situation in UK?
The Marine Conservation Society claimed that they found 718 pieces of different type of rubbish for every 100m stretch of beach and that was a 10% increase on last year. Between litter there was items that could be recycled have been flushed down the toilet including 27.4 million wet wipes.
I believe that it’s all down to us – producers, government, different movements, organisations and each one of us. Nothing going to happen over the night but if we will start from this moment definitely there will be some changes for future generations.
