Today we are exposed to overstimulation, a fast lifestyle and highly processed foods which all leave toxins in our body.

If we do not pay attention to pause once in a while and to get rid of toxins and waste, which we accumulate daily, we experience lack of energy, low motivation and fatigue.

If you want to live a happy and fulfilled life, you have to build good habits into your daily routine so as to keep your energy levels high.

And your energy levels can be high. There is no doubt about that! The key is to consciously cleanse, refresh and refuel your body and mind.

That’s why I have put together some efficient and practical detox tips that I personally use and find very beneficial. Do not be afraid: detoxing is not synonymous with weight loss and drastic fasting.

Once you have experienced the benefits of detoxing, I am quite sure that you will regularly feel the desire to cleanse your body and to release stored pollutants, toxins and stress residues.

It feels great to stimulate the body and give your metabolism new momentum, vitality and strength.

Detoxifying the organism is like a fountain of youth and has wonderfully rejuvenating effects.

Here are my best 10 detox tips
1. Avoid sugar, white flour and acidic foods
Avoid acidic foods if you want to cleanse and purify your body. These include animal products such as meat, sausages, fish and dairy products. These interfere with the body’s acidic/alcaline balance.
Also remove sugar, cigarettes, alcohol, white flour and coffee if you want to purify and have more energy.
Without acidic-forming foods you will feel fitter. But even if you only reduce your consumption, you will notice huge changes.

2. Fruit, green vegetables and bitter substances
Stick to foods that purify the body. Fruit and vegetables are the best for detoxing. Most people eat too little of it. Vegetables, especially green vegetables, are excellent for cleaning the body from the inside out.
Broccoli, spinach, lamb’s lettuce and green asparagus contain a lot of chlorophyll and help detoxify the body. Dandelion and chicory are rich in bitterns that greatly support digestion.

A balanced diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, wholesome products, nuts and healthy unrefined vegetable oils is detoxifying and vitalizing. The more fresh fruits and vegetables you eat, the more efficient the detox is.

3. Yoga and breathing exercises
Use daily yoga and breathing exercises to purify body and mind. For example, alternating nostril breathing and kapalabhati/fire breathing have a physical and mental cleansing effect and stimulate the entire metabolism.
Specific yoga exercises stimulate the organs which play a huge part in detoxification, like liver, kidney, pancreas, spleen, intestines and thyroid. For example, rotational poses stimulate the blood circulation in these organs and support metabolism.
The sun salutation stimulates your hormonal system and activates muscles and bones.

4. Outdoor activities
Movement in fresh air supports the cleanse. You also excrete toxins and metabolic products through our sweat, breath and skin. When walking, swimming, running or cycling, you also relieve stress and wind down wonderfully from a working day.

5. Sauna
During a visit to the sauna you sweat out toxins through your skin. Also taking time out and connecting with yourself is relaxing and brings you the energy that you need for your daily life.

6. Green tea
The perfect companion for detoxification is green tea. It has a stimulating effect, supports the immune system and is a powerful antioxidant.

7. Oil pulling
Oil pulling is an age old method to purify the body. Every morning, take a tablespoon of sunflower oil, sesame oil or coconut oil in your mouth and move the liquid between your teeth back and forth. After a few minutes, spit the oil into a little paper bag and put it into the waste bin. The oil pulls out many metabolic toxins via the mucous membranes.

8. Drinking: still water and lemon water
Drink enough fresh, still water. Refrain from drinking carbonated, sparkling water. Water cleanses the body and refreshes the cells. Fresh, still water is the basis for any purification.

Lemon water has a great cleansing effect and vitalizes your entire system. Squeeze an organic lemon into a large glass first thing in the morning and mix the lemon juice with water. Lemons are full of antioxidants and help the body to fight free radicals that attack our body cells.

9. Turmeric and ginger
Turmeric powder sprinkled over a meal cleanses the blood and has a strong anti-inflammatory effect for the entire body. The effect of turmeric increases if you also add some black pepper.
Also drink fresh ginger water. Ginger sliced in hot water stimulates the metabolism.

10. Avoid stress
Stress is the number 1 poison for our body. Not only does negative stress cause depression and unhappiness, it also weakens our immune system.
Become aware of stressful situations and negative thoughts in your daily life and try to avoid or to eliminate them completely.

11. Bonus tip – Recharge your batteries with breathing…
This exercise is short and helps you gain strength.
Take several deep breaths. Imagine that every time you breathe in, a surge of great energy enters your body at the same time.
Close your eyes and feel the energy reaching all of your body parts – your ears, eyes, nose, forehead, chin, neck, shoulders, torso, arms, abdomen, legs, feet and finally your toes. With every breath, absorb the energy into your body.
